Commitment to a trained work force
Stonewood has adopted a strong commitment to achieving a fully trained work force. In combining both in-house and external training, Stonewood has drawn on the high level of experience within the work force and augmented this through targeted training. This has created a team with diverse strengths and skills.
As a member of the Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B.), Stonewood provides its employees with many opportunities to develop their skills.
Site Managers
Performing a pivotal role in the organisation, training at this level is essential to the Company’s success. In addition to an intensive in-house training programme we have also embarked on NVQ management training programmes and Chartered Institute Of Building (C.I.O.B.) programmes.
Apprenticeships
For several years Stonewood has supported Government run apprenticeship schemes, sending candidates on both carpentry and bricklaying apprenticeships. The schemes offer candidates off-site training, whilst gaining site experience with an experienced supervisor. This ensures the very best training in trade skills and company procedures, and ensures the continued high level of standards that is demanded of Stonewood employees.
Up Skilling
Stonewood employees have enjoyed particular success in day release 'Up Skilling' NVQ courses. 'Up Skilling' courses have enabled Stonewood to develop employees who do not qualify for the apprenticeship scheme. Candidates have gained skills and qualifications translating to greater responsibility and performance on site.
Administration
A key component of Stonewood’s operation as an organised, efficient company has been the development of an office team with an understanding of both administration and construction. Training has included accounts, management, finance and I.T. There is now a solid back up for both clients and employees alike.
Health & Safety
Stonewood adopt an active approach to site Health and Safety, with regular training in all areas of the business. Site Managers are trained on the C.I.T.B. Site Managers Safety Training Scheme and many employees are First Aid qualified. Training in Health and Safety is carried out both in-house and externally and contributes to Stonewood Builders Limited excellent safety record.
