"Combining modern sustainable technologies with a sympathetic conversion of an old building can be extremely tricky, but the Stonewood team really embraced the challenges it set. Although they had some experience of these types of technologies already, they were very open to learning more and worked closely with the specialist sub-contractors to deliver what the client was looking for."
This stone built Grade II listed Barn forms part of an old farm estate in Gloucestershire, which has been in the ownership of the same family for decades.
We created a beautiful 3 bedroom home with contemporary living spaces using traditional materials, whilst incorporating the latest sustainable technologies to provide highly specified, energy efficient accommodation which will continue to provide a sustainable home for generations of the family to come.
"We are increasingly coming across projects where we are being asked to incorporate sustainable technologies. These technologies are often primarily designed to be used in new buildings, so incorporating them into an existing building is never straightforward, but it presents challenges which we at Stonewood all take pride in rising to.
"This particular project called for installation of a water borehole, a ground source heat pump, solar panels, and high levels of insulation, to create the most efficient building possible. Combining all these modern systems in a building which was specified to have a very traditional atmosphere and finish had its challenges and we worked very closely with the specialist contractors to achieve the successful outcome. The finished product is all the more satisfying for knowing that it is enhancing its surrounding environment in more than just aesthetic ways."
