Stonewood Builders announced as finalists in four categories at the Bath Property Awards

Stonewood Builders have been announced as finalists in four categories at the 2021 Bath Property Awards.

The sensitive conversion of historic workshops and warehouses, some dating back 250 years, into 100 work units at The Tannery in Holt has been nominated in the Commercial Development and Transformation categories.

Site manager, Ben Hyatt and Quantity Surveyor, Claire Graham are both finalists in the Rising Star category. Ben joined Stonewood as a labourer nine years ago and progressed to become apprentice carpenter while learning his trade from our skilled craftsmen.

After completing his apprenticeship and, after he worked on a wide variety of prestigious projects, was made a site supervisor before becoming a site manager and is now running sites himself.

Director, Joe Bergson said: “Ben is a solid, dependable and very driven character who has progressed fairly rapidly in nine years. He is very calm and likeable and is respected by his peers. He has a good eye for detail and has been the right sort of ambassador for the business with clients because he is very helpful.”

Claire only began with Stonewood at a project assistant in March 2020 and despite the difficulties of getting to grips with her new role and colleagues while working from home, has always sought more responsibility.

Her determination to learn more about the industry has been rewarded with a quantity surveying role after achieving a first in her degree in quantity surveying at UWE.

Joe said “Claire is very diligent and all of her contractor reports come through they are always well structured and well-written. She is the sort of person who you know when her work comes through it is always going to be perfect.”

The Tannery development’s 44 homes won the Best Residential Development award at last year’s Bath Property Awards.

Managing Director at Stonewood Partnerships, Sam Smart said: “The nominations for The Tannery are a lovely validation of all the hard work that has gone into making this a high-quality project that retains the character of these historic buildings while delivering modern and convenient places to work.

“A large part of the Stonewood ethos is finding and developing our own talent and supporting staff to make the best of that talent, so the Rising Star nominations for two of our most promising members of staff, Ben and Claire, is very pleasing.”

The winners will be announced at an awards lunch at The Apex Hotel in Bath on October 22.
