BSG Health & Safety Award 2023 win for Suzanne Akerman

This year the Building Safety Group (BSG) Health and Safety Awards 2023 were held at the prestigious Williams F1 Experience Centre in Oxfordshire. Among the distinguished winners was our very own Suzanne Akerman, Training & Development Co-Ordinator, who stood out for her exceptional coordination of health and safety training in the newly introduced category of Organisational Competence in Health and Safety Training.

In its inaugural year, the award category served as a testament to Suzanne’s unwavering dedication in arranging and overseeing training programs amidst the challenges posed by conflicting priorities and demands from sites and projects. Nominated by the training team at BSG, Suzanne’s exceptional aptitude for managing training requirements at Stonewood earned her the well-deserved recognition.

Training is at the core of Stonewood, playing an integral role in our visions and values, People & Community. We value our people and have a culture of continuous learning and development which originates from our inception over 50 years ago when Neill Aitkenhead, started the business after a long career in teaching and wanted to bring his knowledge into a different industry.

The esteemed panel of judges evaluated Suzanne against a set of rigorous criteria, including her understanding of the training needs across the entire workforce and her ability to prioritise the company’s training requirements. Suzanne showcased her talent for clearly identifying training goals and objectives, while also demonstrating her proficiency in selecting the most suitable delivery methods tailored to the unique needs of the business.

Moreover, Suzanne’s success extended beyond the planning phase. She exhibited her acumen for evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of training initiatives and ensuring that the knowledge gained was translated into tangible changes in behaviour and job performance. Her ability to develop courses that cater to the specific needs of employees further solidified her position as an invaluable asset in the field of health and safety training.

BSG, thrilled by Suzanne’s achievement, expressed their gratitude for her outstanding contributions to the organisation’s commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing. They lauded her as a shining example of excellence and innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of health and safety training.
