New Build, North Somerset
This highly sustainable, part earth-sheltered single storey dwelling, is located on a raised site at the foot of the Mendip hills. The clients purpose in this project to construct a dwelling to a very high-quality and to a high sustainable design standard. On this project Stonewood have had to meet a an Energy Performance Certificate Rating ‘A+’ or equivalent Passiv Haus standard. The design of this project is arranged around an internal curved spine wall and corridor that is naturally top-lit and constructed in Mendip stone. The central corridor has high level ventilation to assist in natural cooling of the spaces.
The elevations to the north, east and south, are part earth sheltered, set into the contours of the site seeking to integrate into the existing landscape. Materials have be sensitively used throughout the project: timber frame structure, insulated masonry walls, triple glazing, and green roofing, to help bring about a low impact composition and organic form of structure, to conserve and enhance the local area.
