Project Assistant (Castle Cary) 

We have experienced considerable growth in recent years and are looking to recruit a Project Assistant/Administrator to join our busy office in Castle Cary, Somerset.

We are looking for a candidate to work on projects predominantly in the high-end residential sector and have a keen interest in the construction industry. Successful candidates will be mentored by a senior member of staff with a view to undertaking duties on a variety of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day to day assistance to Contracts & Site Managers in the delivery of projects
  • Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly reporting
  • Produce administration documentation
  • Attend and minute project meetings
  • Monitor and report on site health and safety
  • Assist in site set-up and close down procedures

Desired Skills

    Yard Operative/Driver

    This is a varied role primarily carrying out deliveries and collections of site materials, as well as general yard duties.

    As the driver you will be responsible for delivering and collecting construction materials to and from our sites, driving various vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.

    When not making deliveries or collections you will be based at our Castle Combe yard (near Chippenham), carrying out yard duties including unloading deliveries, moving materials, washing equipment and some basic maintenance tasks.

    The Candidate

    We are looking for someone with a friendly, helpful, flexible attitude and personality. A good level of fitness is essential as the role involves lifting and carrying. You must be happy to work alone as well as part of a team. Previous experience in a construction-related environment would be beneficial but not essential. A full UK driving license is required.

    Working hours are 6:30 am to 3 pm.

    Hire Controller

    Stonewood Builders Ltd are an award-winning builder of high-quality building projects, offering exceptional service and a commitment to excellence for nearly 50 years. We have experienced considerable growth in recent years and are looking to recruit a fulltime Hire Controller to join our busy Head Office in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside near Chippenham.

    You will be responsible for the following task areas and will be required to have the skill sets specified below.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Be the main point of contact for all hire requirements from construction sites, dealing with hire requests by both telephone and email
    • Create and maintain relationships with new and existing hire suppliers whilst negotiating the best hire terms
    • Raising hire enquiries, placing orders and ensuring timely deliveries to site
    • Producing site ‘’on hire’’ reports, liaising with the construction sites to ensure all items are still in use
    • Make valued assessments and cost comparisons as to when items should be purchased rather than hired.
    • Make best use of Stonewood owned plant and tools to fulfil hire requirements

    REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

    The ideal candidate will have previous experience within a hire role either within a similar environment or within a hire company. Candidates with previous experience in telephone-based customer service and/or sales roles will also be considered.

    You must have a willingness to develop existing processes whilst also implementing new ones.

    This position requires you to be highly organised. You will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. You will need to be IT literate and be familiar with MS Office and Excel. You will need to be willing to learn how to use our internal systems that will be critical to your role.

    Working hours:
    Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
    (9am – 5.30pm)
